After much delay in construction, Savage in Limbo‘s scenic pieces – a dive bar – were finally built and ready to paint! On Friday, we had our first Paint Call of the semester. This was also the day that the Intro. to Tech Theatre class decided to pay the Painting Realm a little visit for a paint demo. So, because of this combination of extraordinary circumstances, I ended up having the Intro. to Tech Theatre class prim two of the scenic elements for the dive bar!
Prof. Dyan and I gave them a quick introduction to the Painting Area, showing them the tools we use, the books that help us best with research, and, of course, where we keep the paint. Once that was done, Prof. Dyan sorted the students into groups – #TeamRollers, #TeamBrushes, and #TeamCleanup (for left-over dust from sanding, using the router, etc.) – and had them pick out the tools needed for their teams. Once clean-up was done, the priming began.
It was a quick endeavor, given that there were so many hands on deck. The Intro. to Tech Theatre students cleaned-up the tools they used and headed out once their job was completed.
Today was also the day I learned how to make paint fire-resistant. This is a helpful tool in the theatre and a rather easy thing to use. For the primer, I used the three bottles below and mixed it in with the paint itself.
Tomorrow (Tuesday), I begin wood graining!
